J. Ryan Bair, PT, DPT

J. Ryan Bair is the founder and owner of FLASHTM Sports Physical Therapy and Performance Center, LLC. He is a residency-trained sports physical therapist who specializes in the treatment and prevention of running-related injuries. After graduating from Conestoga Valley High School in Lancaster, Pennsylvania in 2005, Ryan attended Saint Francis University in Loretto, Pennsylvania. He earned a Bachelor of Science in Health Sciences and was an Honors Program graduate in May 2008. His undergraduate honors thesis and independent study project titled “A Pilot Study Investigating the Effects of Increased Exercise Intensity on Intravascular Hemolysis in Distance Runners” further earned him departmental honors through the Saint Francis University Physical Therapy Department. Ryan presented this research as a thematic poster presentation at the Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference-American College of Sports Medicine’s annual meeting in 2008 and at the Undergraduate Research at the Capitol-Pennsylvania event in 2009. In 2009, he also presented his graduate research project titled “A Pilot Study Investigating the Effects of Short-Term Vision Loss on Bench Press Performance in College-Aged Students” as a thematic poster presentation at the 2009 Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference-American College of Sports Medicine annual meeting. Ryan went on to become a Doctor of Physical Therapy in May 2010, and at the Saint Francis University Physical Therapy Department Recognition Ceremony, he received the department’s Research Excellence Award.

Not only did Ryan shine in the classroom, but he also competed as a NCAA Division 1 athlete throughout all of his undergraduate and graduate years. He was a distance runner on the cross country and track and field teams, with individual finishes of 23rd and 29th at the 2008 and 2009 Northeast Conference Cross Country Championships, respectively. Following graduation, Ryan became a satellite resident of the DiSepio Institute for Rural Health and Wellness at Saint Francis University’s Sports Physical Therapy Residency Program. He completed the clinical component of his residency at Elite Therapy, PC in Mansfield, Pennsylvania, where he worked with Mansfield area high school and college student-athletes. He also assisted the Mansfield University athletic trainers with on-field and training room management of athletic injuries. To learn about the medical management of sports injuries, Ryan spent time with an orthopedic surgeon during sports medicine office hours and surgery. Desiring to assist other runners, Ryan founded and directed Elite Therapy’s Couch to 5k Training Program and successfully directed a running clinic, ultimately forming the foundation for the FLASHTM Running Clinic.

Ryan is excited to begin serving the community members of West Chester and surrounding areas as a sports physical therapist at FLASH. He believes in combining manual therapy techniques and sport-specific exercise to enable patients to reach their peak level of performance. Ryan lives in West Chester with his fiancée Mariana and their dog Mocha and cats Lucy and Fourth. On the weekend, you can find Ryan either at a local trail or road race or hiking with Mariana and Mocha in one of our area’s great state parks.
